Botanical Garden Expansion

TheRealDeal.com recently posted an article about the overhaul of the botanical garden in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Two firms, South Beach ACE and Portman CMC, agree that the expansion of the botanical garden is vital. Thereporter Christopher Cameron mentions, “Yesterday, the developers presented their proposals for the renovation to the city commission and both plans emphasized the garden as a ‘unique amenity’ that will draw visitors.”

Battle for the Miami Beach Convention Center

Two bidders are competing for the multi-million dollar Miami Beach Convention Center project. They have presented their plans to the public recently during a hearing. The presentations offered more information on what they plan to do but neither offered much on how traffic will be impacted. An article on Globest.com stated, “The Portman CMC team has hired David Plummer & Associates, a Coral Gables company, to analyze traffic issues in connection with its plan.”

Portman – CMC Group Scales down Retail Space in Convention Center Bid

Jack Portman, vice chairman of Portman Holdings and John Portman & Associates, recently announced that the Portman – CMC bid for the Miami Convention Center will now propose less retail and leasable space than the initial plans. This decision was made after the team received feedback from the public and merchants on Lincoln Road. The new plans propose approximately 100,000 square feet of retail space, which is about half of the initial amount of space proposed. “It’s an evolving process,” Portman said.

Ugo Colombo Selected as Part of Team to Revamp Miami Convention Center

Ugo Colombo was recently selected to be one of two teams working to create a development plan and financial proposal for the Miami Convention Center. This project will be privately funded and voted on by the public of Miami to ultimately decide between the two proposals. According to the article, Ugo Colombo’s team will consist of “Portman-CMC, the developer who built the 14-block Peachtree Center in Atlanta, and its partners, Miami condo developer Ugo Colombo, Cirque du Soleil and the Bal Harbour Shops.” The proposals are scheduled to be completed in June and will then be voted on.
